Preoperatorio superado - ¡mañana es el día! / Preop cleared - Tomorrow is the day!

Hoy era el día señalado para el preoperatorio de María, ése que tantos dolores de cabeza nos ha dado en el pasado (los fieles seguidores del blog bien conocéis que en 2011 tuvimos que retrasar más de 2 semanas una cirugía por una maldita faringitis). El anestesista ha dado el visto bueno al estado general de María y mañana entra en quirófano.

Nos han citado a las 6am, la hora final de la operación dependerá de varios factores incontrolables por nuestro lado así que "paciencia y barajar", como diría Cervantes. La operación va a consistir en insertar una nueva varilla de alargamiento en su fémur derecho (pendiente de saber si será el Precice tradicional o el Precice Stryde que es la última novedad en el mercado, una varilla más gruesa que soporta más peso y permite caminar desde el primer día) y además el Dr. Paley le va a practicar en su tobillo derecho un SHORDT que es una técnica desarrollada por él para mejorar la estabilidad del pie.

Hoy hemos aprovechado el día para ir a la ortopedia para que tomaran medidas de la pierna de María para fabricarle la férula con la que va a tener que dormir todas las noches durante el alargamiento (un auténtico coñazo para la pobre). Adjunto foto del molde de la pierna de María para deleite de nuestros seguidores que nos piden tener todos los detalles.

Posteriormente nos hemos acercado al hospital donde iba a tener lugar un evento multitudinario con todos los pacientes y trabajadores de la clínica de Paley. Se trataba de, todos juntos, formar un "logo humano" con las letras de Paley, conmemorando los 10 años de apertura de su clínica en West Palm Beach. Ahí hemos estado más de 100 personas con camisetas moradas formando bajo las instrucciones de la fotógrafa que, megáfono en mano desde lo alto de la escalera de un camión de bomberos, nos indicaba dónde situarnos. Todo esto a pleno sol en el helipuerto del hospital. Tras casi una hora de instrucciones lo hemos conseguido. Afortunadamente, no ha habido que lamentar bajas personales. No tenemos la foto que ha salido desde lo alto del camión de bomberos, os dejamos no obstante una imagen 'a pie de calle' del evento.

Pues así pasa la vida por aquí, mañana os contamos cómo va la operación.

Today was the designated day for Maria's preop, the one that has given us so many headaches in the past (the faithful followers of the blog are well aware that back in 2011 we had to delay more than 2 weeks a surgery because of a pharyngitis). The anesthesiologist has given the green light to the general state of Maria and tomorrow the operating room is waiting.

Tomorrow, we have been summoned at 6am, the final hour of the surgery will depend on several uncontrollable factors on our side. Dr. Paley will insert a new lengthening rod in her right femur (not decided yet if it will be either the traditional Precice or the Precice Stryde which is the latest innovation, a thicker rod that supports more weight and allows the patient to walk from day one). Dr. Paley is also going to perform on his right ankle a SHORDT procedure which is a technique developed by him to improve the stability of the foot.

Today we went to the orthopedics to take measures of Maria's leg to make the brace with which she will have to sleep every night during the lengthening (see pic above). 

 

Later we went to the hospital where a big event was taking place with all the patients and workers of the Paley clinic. The objective was, altogether, to form a "human logo" with the letters of Paley, commemorating the 10 years of its clinic in West Palm Beach. There were more than 100 people with purple shirts forming under the instructions of the photographer who, megaphone in hand from the top of the ladder of a fire truck, showed us where to be located. All this in full sun on the hospital's helipad. After almost an hour of instructions we have achieved it. Fortunately, there has been no regret for personal losses. We do not have the photo that resulted from the top of the fire truck, we leave you however an image 'at street level' of the event.
